Adwoa Aboah, a British-Ghanianan model, embraced her West African roots as she directed the final instalment of Burberry‘s most recent campaign.

The third part of the series was directed in Ghana’s capital of Accra, in the same location where her father grew up.

For the model, the shoot was particularly close to her heart as she hadn’t gotten the chance to visit Ghana often. To give the shoot an even more personal touch, she enlisted the help of her aunt, Ernestina Aboah, who used the Burberry checkered prints to create traditional looks complete with African head ties.

This move by Aboah is particularly important for Africa as a continent as not only is fashion in Africa seemingly on the rise, it is refreshing to see that such a high-end label whose original core audience is British and very traditional, opened up to integrating their designs by plugging in African elements.

Aboah who directed all three instalments of the three-part campaign has recorded several other recent wins, some of which include:  Her feature in a 2018 commercial for Revlon’s PhotoReady Insta-Filter™ Foundation as well as being named British GQ‘s ‘Woman of the Year’ for 2017.

There’s no stopping this young woman and we’re particularly thrilled in hopes that this deft blend between African and Western fashion is the first of many to come.
