When I first found out that Meghan Markle was dating Prince Harry, I thought to myself  “good for her, she’s dating royalty.”  I have been a fan of Meghan Markle’s acting since she did a guest appearance on the series Castle.

When I saw her on Suits, I was excited because I remembered what a good performance she gave in the last series I saw her. She was a rising star, fairly successful in her chosen field and I also loved the fact that she was so outspoken about issues pertaining towomen’s rights and empowerment.

Then Prince Harry proposes to her and then suddenly, she has to quit her job as an actress, she shuts down all her social media accounts, and she has to change the way she dresses. Her life becomes the object of public scrutiny. All of a sudden, every Tom, Dick and Harry on the street had something to say about her past, her upbringing and her family.

All people talked about during the months leading to the wedding was how history was being made and Meghan was so lucky she was being “admitted” into the royal family regardless of the fact that she is partly of African-American descent, a divorcee, a Hollywood actress and a bit older than Prince Harry.I just kept thinking to myself throughout this period, “why is she marrying this guy, she must really love him, because this just seems like a lot for one person”. Also, I kept remembering Princess Diana and the media scrutiny she faced, which tragically led to her death.

Since Meghan got “married to royalty” she has barely had a break, its one scandal or the other every day. Even when she was pregnant people came for her on social media and even the press. How can you call someone vain and an attention seeker only because she likes to put her hand on her baby bump when she’s out? It’s her baby bump, attached to her body, how do you have a problem with something someone does to herself and her baby?

Holding her baby bump probably came from some deep-rooted motherly instincts, plus let’s not forget that this was her first pregnancy and she was being hounded by the press and the judgmental masses for all the nine months of that pregnancy. No wonder she felt the need to safeguard her baby from the world.

Meghan Markle’s story shows that being married to royalty in the real world is not all fairytales and roses.

It’s a life of constant scrutiny, obligations, and responsibilities. A life of sacrifice and bottling up frustrations. You have to be strong and ready to face all manner of emotional, legal and physical battles to survive. Meghan is so lucky to have a husband that truly loves and is willing to stand for her and sacrifice anything just to keep her safe and happy. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex decided to step down as senior members of the royal family and their reasons for that are clear. I think it was a great decision for them to take a step back and move to Canada.

Recent pictures of the couple show them happy and looking like they are living their best life, which is really all anyone wants. We are sending love and light their way and we pray that they continue to be happy.
