Africa’s biggest film festival returns – bolder and more dynamic than ever. The 14th edition of the African International Film Festival (AFRIFF) is back, bringing fresh ideas, global conversations, and powerful creative connections to the continent’s film scene.

Scheduled to take place from November 2nd to 8th, 2025, this year’s festival is themed “Rhythms of the Continent: The Afrobeats Film Movement.” The event will celebrate the fusion of Nigeria’s thriving music culture and the African film industry, exploring how Afrobeats—a global sound rooted in African rhythms and storytelling – is shaping a new creative identity for African cinema and inspiring cross-industry collaborations.

On opening night,“Three Cold Dishes” a film directed by Oluseyi Asurf and executive produced by global superstar Burna Boy and award-winning actress Osas Ighodaro will premiere. The film stars Osas Ighodaro, Wayidi Adeleke, Wale Ojo, Fat Toure, Femi Jacobs. The film follows the gripping story of three young women who, after being trafficked as teenagers, unite years later to execute a daring revenge on the men who once exploited them.

A major highlight of this year’s festival is the launch of the AFRIFF Film and Content Market (AFCM)- Nigeria’s first and only film and content marketplace. This groundbreaking addition will serve as a structured business hub for filmmakers, distributors, buyers, and investors to connect, negotiate, and close deals. The AFCM will foster content licensing, co-production agreements, and international distribution partnerships, unlocking new commercial opportunities for African films and creative content.

The AFCM will welcome global media groups, studios, institutions, and partners including MTN, Goldfinch, SOOP, SPCINE, the Lagos State Government, and the Federal Ministry of Arts, Culture & the Creative Economy (FMACCE). Their participation underscores AFRIFF’s growing reputation as a global platform for meaningful collaboration and industry development.

“AFRIFF has always been a bridge between creativity and opportunity,” said Chioma Ude, Founder and Executive Director of AFRIFF. “With the Afrobeats Film Movement and the launch of the AFRIFF Film and Content Market, we’re not just celebrating art – we’re building an ecosystem that empowers African creatives to take ownership of their stories, their businesses, and their place on the global stage.”

Beyond screenings and showcases, AFRIFF 2025 will feature a series of industry sessions, masterclasses, and workshops designed to equip filmmakers with the skills and insights needed to thrive in today’s evolving media landscape. Topics will cover international co-productions, content commissioning, film distribution, marketing, and financing.

The week-long festival will culminate in the AFRIFF Globe Awards, a prestigious ceremony celebrating excellence in African and diaspora cinema. Awards will recognize outstanding achievements in feature films, documentaries, shorts, animation, directing, acting, screenwriting, and more.

During the festival, over 100 films from across Africa and the diaspora will be screened, including a documentary titled “Afroculture: The Making,” which focuses on Flavour’s rise in the Afrobeats era, highlighting the diversity, creativity, and resilience of African storytellers and serving as the closing film for the festival.

With its rich blend of business, education, and entertainment, AFRIFF 2025 promises to be a truly transformative experience for filmmakers, creatives, and audiences alike.

Faith-based Nollywood movies used to have a reputation for being slow and preachy. Nollywood’s newer faith-inspired films? They’re bold, emotional, relatable… and yes, you’ll probably cry and rethink your life.

If you’ve been craving stories that hold your faith and your real-life struggles — love, loss, career delays, purpose, healing — these ones deliver. They’re not just sermons in film form. They’re real stories, full of flaws, tension, hope, and God.

Here are 7 Nigerian movies to add to your watchlist immediately (yes, even if you weren’t planning to).

1. God Calling
Stream on: official Godcalling website
Depression. Grief. A literal phone call from God.
This is not your typical “glow up and find Jesus” story. It’s messy, emotional, beautifully shot, and it follows a woman whose world falls apart — until Heaven interrupts. A visual masterpiece with real spiritual depth. You’ll feel this one in your chest.

God Calling, faith based Nollywood movie

2. The Wait
Watch on: Netflix
The name alone is triggering, yes, but this one’s for anyone who’s been trusting God through tears. Infertility, delay, disappointment — it’s all here. But so is hope, woven with scriptures, friendship, and honesty. You’ll walk away with more faith and possibly puffy eyes.

The Wait, faith based Nollywood movie

3. Silver Ever After
Watch on: YouTube
No, marriage doesn’t magically fix everything. This film explores what happens when love gets tired. A middle-aged couple, now empty nesters, have to fight for their “happily ever after.” It’s emotional, grown, and will make you realize how underrated communication and Jesus really are.Silver Ever After, Faith based Nollywood movie      4. Breath of Life
Streaming on Prime Video
Whew. This one is quiet, slow-burning, and then boom — it grabs your spirit. It’s about purpose, destiny, and how one must live to fulfill their assignment. The cinematography is STUNNING.Breath of life, Nigerian movie    5. You May Only Kiss the Bride
Watch on: YouTube
A romantic Christian film? Yes please. But this one’s not just about butterflies — it’s about self-worth, wholeness, and dating with your brain and your Bible. It’s playful and sweet, but the message sticks: Work on yourself. Trust God. And don’t lower your standard for vibes. You may only kiss the bride, faith based Nigerian movie

6. The Man of God
Watch on: Netflix
Think modern prodigal son but with a twisge. A preacher’s kid ditches faith for fame, fortune, and vibes. But you already know God doesn’t let go that easy. Dramatic? Yes. Imperfect? Absolutely. But underneath all the flash is a story about identity and redemption. You’ll yell at the screen, then sit quietly when it ends.

Man of God, faith based Nigerian movie

Faith-based doesn’t mean flat. These movies carry something — healing, conviction, or just the reminder that you’re not alone in your story.
So light a candle, grab snacks, and stream something that’ll feed more than just your screen time.

Hey Queens! We got this love letter from an anonymous fan of Tope Tedela in our inbox. The writer asked that we publish this in the hopes that Tope would somehow see it. But she requested to remain anonymous.

Dear Tope Tedela,

I remember the night I first saw you, I could not help but notice and be intrigued by your suave-yet-playful, smiling face. It was on an episode of “Edge of Paradise,” where you played the role of Julian.

I remember so well how you transitioned from the guy with dreadlocks to a nice cut because of how much you loved your then love interest; Adaora. I sat and watched you deliver your lines in the easiest way possible. It was quite easy for you to become my crush and eventually my MCM forever.

This may come as a shock, especially as I don’t know you personally but I follow you on Instagram and Twitter. I also keep up with all your interviews.

Your birthday is marked on my calendar and like a hawk, I follow up with your actions, career wins and gossip. I’m thankful that you are a very conservative celebrity. I don’t have to shout too much. Lol

More importantly, I’d like to thank you for your admirable talent. Seeing your face on the screen brightens up my day. It takes a special kind of person to trigger my emotions from just delivering a line or two. You pick your stories carefully and with every script, you deliver effortlessly. I remember your role in “A Mile from Home”… That was such a remarkable role.

Even though my sister and friends call me a dreamer, I’m holding on to the reality that while this will probably never work out, I’m going to be here sending you positive vibes every time, defending your honor and engaging with you in the comment sections of your Instagram and Twitter.

I know it is crazy that I’m confessing my love to you in this manner, but I just want you to know that I’m not the only one who feels this way about someone they probably won’t meet.

Thank you for having the most piercing eyes I’ve ever seen. Also, please never change your hair because it is one of my favorite things about you.

Crushing on a celebrity is a part of human nature so while I know that our paths may never cross, I still want to take a moment to express my appreciation.

I appreciate you immensely.

Xoxo!

Ini Dima Okojie has made a name for herself in the social circles in Nigeria. Not only is she an acclaimed actress, the International Relations graduate once worked in Finance as an investment banker.

These days, not only is the New York Film Academy graduate making her mark in Nollywood, she’s killing it in fashion too. Armed with a designer best friend, Derin of FablanebyDerin, there’s no stopping this young woman.

Here are our 5 fave looks of hers:

Bubble!

We love this simple shimmery bubble dress created by iconic Nigerian designer, Lanre Da Silva Ajayi. In typical Ini fashion, the style star made it look like a ‘freakum’ dress. A bubble dress is always a good add for your wardrobe because you can dress it up or down to your peculiar taste. Okojie added a fuschia print purse for that extra little sum-n.

Take Me to Paris

For Okojie, she took this pretty literally. Pictured on the streets of Paris, she made this dress look like a million bucks. In her usual whimsical way of pairing fabrics to make it look better than it would on a normal day, she paired a floral scarf with this gorgeous gypsy dress by @thenalegirl and added a belt because a waist cinch is always important especially when you’re naturally gifted with an hourglass figure. You’ll see what I mean in the next photo.

Bodycon is Your Friend

As I stated earlier, Ini’s body is snatched, so snatched that she can afford to give Kim Kardashian a run for her money. I’m saying it with my chest. For this look, she paired stripes and mustard (this is always a good idea) for the ultimate easy glam. The top was an @the5kshop piece and the skirt was tailor-made by her bestie FablaneByDerin.

Colour me happy

Ini never shies away from playing around with bold colours as seen in both photos below. What’s interesting is that she keeps it bright by wearing the same colour from top to bottom and pairing with a slightly demure accessory to tone it down a little. We stan!

… and you are my African Queen

If you’re thinking I totally sang that headliner, you’d be absolutely correct. Here, Ini opted for bantu knots and a figure-hugging Ankara dress with a sheer chiffon kimono. Everything about this look is doing it for me!
