The theme of this year’s event was “Camp: Notes on Fashion”. The term, “Camp,” basically means stepping outside of the box of what society normally expects.

In my opinion though, I think this year, the celebrities didn’t go all out with their looks unlike previous years. Some of them actually came through and some snatched our edges while at it!

See below our favorite looks from the event.

Zendaya was a modern day edgy Cinderella in this flourescent Tommy Hilfiger dress. Super retro, love it!

Ciara came through dripping like the queen that she is in this gorgeous emerald dress designed by Peter Dundas. Gosh look at those abs of steel! *drops doughnut*

We think Ava Duvernay played safe but she looks hella gorgeous in this eye-catching green gown by Prada.

Billy “OMG” Porter came for our edges again last night with this golden fit by The Blonds.

Danai Gurira just never disappoints! She looks gorgeous in this outfit by Gabriela Hearst.

Dwayne Wade came through looking like gangsta royalty in this custom sparkling Dundas fit.

Yasssss Janelle! She looked absolutely picturesque in this ensemble by Christian Siriano.

Jourdan Dunn showed up on the red carpet looking like a rose flower in this design by Zac Posen. We love it!

Okay Lewis Hamilton! Go ahead with your bad self in this metallic zig-zag suit that we can’t really describe.

Lilly Singh came looked seriously enchanting in this purple ombre dress by Jeremy Scottgown.

Lupita Nyong’o never fails to disappoint and yet again, she proves that she is one of Hollywood’s finest fashionistas in this Prada dress.

Michael B. Jordan‘s Coach 1941 suit was fit for a superhero

Naomi Campbell looked stunning as always in this Pier Paolo Piccioli for Valentino Haute Couture dress.

Regina Hall showed off her toned legs in this gold, black and cream dress created by Gucci. #BlackDon’tCrack y’all!

Tracee Ellis Ross looked like a work of art in this dress by Jeremy Scott.

Ade Samuel sure deserves some accolades!

Ade took to Instagram a few hours ago, to share the photos below, as well as her experience with styling the two stars for such a prestigious event.

She captioned the photos:

“I can’t even begin to tell you about yesterday…. easily, one of the best days of my life!!! (which is why I decided to bask in the moment and soak it all in before my extreme posting session today lol) – MET GALA with not one but two clients who are heaven sent. This beautifully crafted ETHIOPIAN CHRISTIANITY INSPIRED masterpiece was made with much research and much thought behind every detail you see on the @coach CUSTOM gown. (Slide to see the inspo board) – it was super important to remain respectful to the culture. From the Ethiopian inspired braids (hair by @ursulastephen) to the ever so fresh and edgy makeup by (@tashareikobrown) – to the hand embroidered beading details- this was def one of my favorite looks ever and @letitiawright as usual is just breaking down doors and having fun as our Princess. #MET #proudassstylist #WakandaatMET#AccordingtoAde 💋

Her journey to being a professional stylist is replete with tangible lessons we all can learn, about faith, carving out a niche for oneself, and going above and beyond what is expected of you.

Speaking on how she knew that a styling profession was her calling, Ade, who has a degree in Fashion Merchandising and Textile and Technology from Buffalo State College, once told Teen Vogue:

…I knew styling and designing would be the career that I was in, so to prepare myself for that I interned a lot while in college. That’s how I landed my position at Teen Vogue. From there, I would intern with different stylists to learn more about that as a career. Once I recognized it was something I wanted to do, I freelanced until I landed my first celebrity client to style on my own. From there, I’ve just made growth a priority.

In addition to interning at Teen Vogue, she also interned with beauty PR firm Tractenberg & Co. and magazine.

On what sets her apart from others in her field, Ade told XoNecole:

“You have to know your competition and you have to see what they’re doing that’s keeping them consistent in work. Think about what you can do in your niche and how to be an innovator with your clients. The reason why some stylists don’t find consistent work is because they do the bare minimum. They do like, ‘Okay, let me go call in clothes’ or ‘Let me go to the store and buy something and then put it on my client’ when it’s like you’re costing them money now. A stylist like me or a bigger stylist has relationships. We don’t need to go to Versace and shop. We can just get Versace in for you through our relationships with the PR company.”

In her over 6-year career, Ade has styled all the biggest celebrities including Beyonce, Big Sean, Nicole Richie, Christina Aguilera, Miley Cyrus, and more.

We’re so inspired by Ade Samuel, and we wish her continued success in her career.
