It was announced that the best dressed category winner was going to win a cash prize of N500,000 which prompted celebrities showing up in their best outfits.

TV Personality, Daari Oruwari showed up styled by Style Territory in an Iro and Buba ensemble  and the duo won the prize money for best dressed.

Shortly after the event, the pair got called out on Instagram by Creative Director Laila Cadne for allegedly stealing the look from her. According to her, she had previously styled this particular look for a photo shoot. She also had pictures to prove it.

Here is a post Laila published on her Instagram page:

In response to Style Territory’s claim that she had no idea that Laila existed, Laila posted a screenshot that shows Style Territory commenting on this same look months ago:

Style Territory also took Instagram, to bash Laila, insisting she did not know who she was. See  below:

I understand that coming up with ideas can be pretty difficult for creatives and that sometimes, you depend on other creatives’ ideas for inspiration. It is totally okay. The least that people can do is give proper credit for a creative work. People put in a lot of work into creating things. Don’t take out ideas from a person and deliver to a client without explaining firstly where the idea was gotten from.

In fact, in legal terms, there is a term for utilizing the same expression of an idea without proper credit. It is called plagiarism.

We hope that other creatives learn from this experience and begin to do things the right way.
