From her stirring Time’s Up speech at the Golden Globes, which prompted the hashtag #Oprahforpresident to go viral on social media, to signing a multi-year deal with Apple and dominating the Forbes list in its annual list of the world’s billionaires as per usual, Aunty O is killin’ it left, right, and centre.

However, despite the strong clamoring for Oprah to become president, she addresses politics as she sits down with Vogue Britain‘s Editor-in-Chief, Edward Enninful, and gives her unfiltered opinion about politics.

“In that political structure – all the non-truths, the bullshit, the crap, the nastiness, the backhanded backroom stuff that goes on – I feel like I could not exist. I would not be able to do it. It’s not a clean business. It would kill me.”

During the interview, the media mogul also delves into lighter issues such as a near fashion mishap that might have occurred but was abated all thanks to Google – she nearly wore a ‘whitish’ dress to the royal wedding, as she thought it was cream at first. Gasp! But luckily, renowned fashion designer, Stella McCartney was able to remake the dress in pink in record time. Anything is possible when you’re Oprah, right?

She also spoke about the ongoing #MeToo and #TimesUp movements. “People talk about ‘these are such dark times’, but what if we shift the paradigm? Because I see it differently,” she asserts.

“I see, ‘Isn’t this remarkable that we’re waking up?’ For years, women have endured craziness. This is what’s happening to people. They’re allowing themselves to not just become corroded, but to become hysterical. You’ve got to lean to the happiness.”

Key take-out: Be like Oprah. Make a positive spin on any negative situation. Attitude is key!

Michelle Williams is Taking Back Her Power & We Love It! https://queenmoremi.com/2018/06/michelle-williams-is-taking-back-her-power-we-love-it/ Mon, 25 Jun 2018 10:10:50 +0000 http://queenmoremi.com/?p=2721 Singer, Michelle Williams, recently sat down with Forbes for an exclusive interview in which she spoke about issues pertaining to her mental health, career, and growth. In the interview, she spoke about the need to constantly be up and running and the pervasive idea that if we got some downtime, somehow that would have a negative impact on our hustle. She further added that this method of thinking had put a dent on her mental health and she’s determined to change that now.

That whole, ‘While you sleep I was grinding’ foolishness? No, please rest. This past week, I literally had to take stuff off my calendar. I had too much going on, and was starting to feel pulled. Sorry, call me flakey if you want to, but my mental health is way more important.

Shedding more light on mental health, she added that insecurities tend to flood their way in when we’ve reached adulthood because we become suddenly aware of all the negativity that has been thrown our way right from childhood. Realising this, inspired her single, ‘Believe in me’ in which she sings:

“Maybe I’m guilty
Of loosing my focus
Was too busy chasin’ what they wanted me to be
Livin’ through their eyes
Drained by the spotlight”

For some reason, when you become an adult, you discover insecurity. Someone may talk bad about you or bully you in your childhood, and before you know, you’ve adopted those things and you stop believing in yourself. I said, let me start believing in me again. I needed to get back to that place before opinions and doubts and fears got in my way.

The singer who is also an entrepreneur has been very vocal about her battle with depression. She has actively been turning her focus to healing and counseling, and gives credit her fiance, Pastor Chad Johnson, for being part of her healing process.

The 37-year-old Grammy winner is also an avid supporter of businesses run by other African-American women. “Women, we know how to tear each other down, you know what I mean, and it’s amazing that there are so many great, empowering companies out there.”

Michelle continues to spread light and positivity as she embarks on her journey forward as an entrepreneur which she believes is her new purpose. When asked if we can expect to hear new music from her, the ‘Say Yes’ singer replied:

Music is in my future. I would love to release some new music this year, but not because I just have to be an artist. I’m excited to settle down, get married, motherhood, doing stuff I always want to do. Whether I just want to paddle board, and then go to an arena next month and sing a song, I want to make sure life is balanced. I’ve had a great run musically, but I believe I’m purposed to do some other things on this earth, too.

We love her positive spirit.

Forbes Africa Unveils 30 Under 30 List for 2018 https://queenmoremi.com/2018/06/forbes-africas-30-under-30-list-for-2018-is-here/ Mon, 04 Jun 2018 13:16:31 +0000 http://queenmoremi.com/?p=1798 Forbes Africa 30 Under 30 is an annual list compiled by Forbes Africa, and it features individuals that the publication deems to be some of the most ingenious innovators in…]]> Forbes Africa 30 Under 30 is an annual list compiled by Forbes Africa, and it features individuals that the publication deems to be some of the most ingenious innovators in industries such as Business, Technology and Creative who are all under 30. They are selected from all African countries from a list of over a million applicants- so it is quite the achievement for anyone who lands on the list.

We were particularly thrilled to see a couple of names we recognised ranging from music stars such as Wizkid who has had an exceptional year especially after selling out London’s 20,000 seater, o2 Arena, to media mavens like Aso Ebi Bella‘s Ink Eze.

A huge congratulations to all who made the list and a great inspiration to keep on grinding. It’s great to see that Africa is on to something HUGE.

Speaking on this year’s list, Forbes Africa states:

The 2018 FORBES AFRICA Under 30 is our authentic and most definitive list of Africa’s most promising young change-makers. This year is our fourth edition of the list and for the first time, inspired by the growing number of young men and women entrepreneurs, we have expanded it to bring you 30 game-changers, all under the age of 30, in each the three sectors – business, technology and creative. The 90 in total are challenging conventions and rewriting the rules for the next generation of entrepreneurs, creatives and tech gurus.

We put in months of rigorous research, sifting through over 600 nominations, vetting them for weeks, verifying and investigating them. We favored entrepreneurs with fresh ideas and took into account their business size, revenue, location, potential, struggles, social impact and resilience. A panel of judges then debated the final 90. You may not know many of their names now and they may not be richest people in Africa, but they could be the billionaires of tomorrow gracing our future covers. This compilation is exciting, inspiring and offers a sneak peek into Africa’s future. Meet the class of 2018. The list is in no particular order.
