The theme of this year’s event was “Camp:…]]> The 2019 Met Gala took place yesterday in New York city and as expected, celebrities went all out with their style choices.

The theme of this year’s event was “Camp: Notes on Fashion”. The term, “Camp,” basically means stepping outside of the box of what society normally expects.

In my opinion though, I think this year, the celebrities didn’t go all out with their looks unlike previous years. Some of them actually came through and some snatched our edges while at it!

See below our favorite looks from the event.

Zendaya was a modern day edgy Cinderella in this flourescent Tommy Hilfiger dress. Super retro, love it!

Ciara came through dripping like the queen that she is in this gorgeous emerald dress designed by Peter Dundas. Gosh look at those abs of steel! *drops doughnut*

We think Ava Duvernay played safe but she looks hella gorgeous in this eye-catching green gown by Prada.

Billy “OMG” Porter came for our edges again last night with this golden fit by The Blonds.

Danai Gurira just never disappoints! She looks gorgeous in this outfit by Gabriela Hearst.

This statement clearly applies to 40-year-old Black Panther actress, Danai Gurira. 

In a recent interview with NY Times, Danai gave readers a peek into her beauty and makeup routines, and we are so here for it.

I’m so tempted to say “the oracle has spoken.” For some reason, for me, Danai epitomises this very strong, fierce character that can’t be shaken and won’t be shaken. It isn’t just her role in Black Panther, where she’s portrayed as Okoye, the leader of the female power-house warriors, Dora Milaje. It’s also in her look-the shaved head, bold red lipstick, skin the colour of chocolate and that glow we can’t explain.

I guess it’s why my curiousity was aroused when she dished on her beauty routine.

Here are a few highlights of what she said:

On Skin…

The famous actress opts for CeraVe – a gentle cleanser which can be purchased at a really affordable price.

Then I use a lot of Sisley. My makeup artist introduced me to Sisley when I was battling dehydration in the dead of winter in New York. She used the Black Rose Cream Mask on me, which is really less of a mask and more of a cream.

On Lips…

She also uses the lip balm from Sisley which she loves for its nourishing moisture. But when needing a base for her lipstick, she swears by Clarins Beauty Flash Balm which she praises for being hydrating and glow-y.

For lipsticks, she’s a fan of anything by Chanel. She also reveals that she’s a germophobe and as such, never shares lipsticks. Luckily, she’s received a lot of lipstick products from makeup artists in the past as a result. One of her favourite lip colours by Chanel, Etienne, has become her signature look as it was the shade she donned for the blockbuster movie, Black Panther. 

On Foundation & Contouring…

Danai picks and chooses what works for her from the Pros. When wearing foundation she opts for the MAC Match Master.

A surprising reveal which she made however, was the fact that she doesn’t contour! Yes, you heard that right. I also gasped, so don’t worry. Her reason?:

The one thing I don’t do is contour. I would never even attempt it. It’s partly because I leave that kind of stuff to the pros, but even when I’m working with makeup artists, I don’t like when they contour so much that I can’t see my face anymore. I want to see my face!

Well, that makes perfect sense and the oracle has indeed spoken!
