It has been a buzzworthy weekend for soccer fans in Nigeria and those in diaspora. Bittersweet ending to it, as Nigeria didn’t take home the win during their friendly match with England. But boy was it a sweet period for Nike as they’re currently making bank!
The Nigerian soccer jerseys which were designed by Nike, had received rave reviews when the official photos were released on May 29th, with several Nigerian Superstars starring in the epic campaign. Some of them included: Photographer, Yagazie Emezi, singer, Wizkid, and more.
Nike reportedly received three million pre-orders for the shirt prior to its release on Friday morning and the jerseys were so widely loved, that hundreds of people were reportedly queuing to get theirs. The crowds were so intense, that they began spilling out into the streets outside the Nike store in Oxford Derby.
We might not have taken home the win, but we sure did trend, worldwide with many opining that our loss was actually a decoy to keep our opponents guessing… smart! Naija no dey carry last afterall.
