Barely 9 months after being crowned 2017 winner of Ghana’s foremost pageant, Miss Ghana, Margaret Dery has resigned amidst speculations. The beauty queen reportedly sent the pageant organizers an e-mail, informing them about her decision to step down.
Following reports of her resignation, Margaret took to Twitter to confirm the news. She told her followers that her short term as Miss Ghana was the worst period of her life.
She said:
She further stated:
Never be afraid to raise your voice for honesty, truth and compassion against injustice, lying and greed. No more will I cover up for anyone that doesn’t deserve it. The whole world will know the truth soon.
What could have prompted her decision to resign? Could it be that she was facing some compromising situations? Anyways, we are waiting for her to spill all the tea. For me, I give her kudos for taking such a bold step because not many young women these days would make that sacrifice. This is because they would probably reason that being a Queen comes with a lots of benefits like scholarship, funding of projects, tours, brand ambassadorship opportunities, etc, and because of all these perks, they may not be so willing to give up the crown.
But come to think of it, after getting all the fame and money, what happens to your dignity, integrity and even peace of mind, if you succumb to a comprising situation? Your core values cannot be traded for silver or gold. That is my honest opinion. I would love to read your opinions about this. feel free to comment.
