Is it just me? But I feel like this year’s Father’s Day seemed to have been more celebrated than in previous years.  What a blessing that was.

Too often, we only get to witness the unsavory bits about black and African fathers. It was great to see so many share loving stories of their fathers; we’re reclaiming the narrative, bit by bit.

In the same breath, the day was particularly difficult for some whose fathers had either passed away or weren’t present through their childhood. For the single Mothers who had to play both roles, it was also a reminder of the grueling sacrifices they’ve made. So we decided to dedicate this post specifically to them.

Dear Single Mother,

Are you fretting? Are you worried that your child doesn’t have a present father and is incomplete as a result, in some shape or form? I want you to please breathe and know that this rhetoric is played out. You are enough.

Today, when the world celebrates present fathers, know that you are 2-in-1. You continue to play both roles seamlessly. My use of the word, ‘seamless’ was no mistake because to attempt to perform both roles in and of itself, is no child’s play. Yet, you continue to stretch yourself past your breaking points, you continue to cry yourself to sleep on those nights where you wished you had a partner but, you wake up with your game face on and take the responsibilities head-on. They don’t make them like you anymore. You are special. You are worthy and you are enough.

On a day like this, where it appears as though you are not seen, please know, that you are. You are priceless and we see all that you do and all that you are. Continue being a force of nature knowing that for every time the pain comes and it’s difficult to push through but you do anyway, you’re sending waves of encouragement and inspiration for every other single mom working to beat the odds.

In case you missed it the first time and the time after that, you are enough!!! Happy Father’s Day to you. We love you. 🌹
