The royal wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle is arguably the most talked about event of the year. The entire journey to their highly anticipated wedding day has been riddled with curiosity and even in some ways, anxiety as though we were part and parcel of the affair-which I guess, in some ways, we are.
By now, you’ve probably heard about the event in bits and pieces. Considering the plethora of being released, we’ve decided to give you a breakdown of all the key information we have on the wedding which has been slated for today, 19th May, 2018.
- The wedding goes against weekly tradition. The couple’s decision to wed on a Saturday goes against tradition, as royal weddings usually take place on a weekday. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge wed on a Friday and the Queen on a Thursday.
- The invitations however, follow tradition as they are being made by Barnard Westwood, made in gold and black with the three-feathered badge of the Prince of Wales is given pride of place in the centre.

3. There will be no public holiday. Although the public were given a day off to celebrate the weddings of Prince Charles to Diana Spencer in 1981, Prince William to Catherine Middleton in 2011, and Princess Anne to Mark Phillips in 1973, Prince Harry and his fiancée’s choice to wed on May 19 avoids the issue of whether or not the royal wedding should be a bank holiday.
4. There will be no traditional wedding presents accepted by the couple. Instead, the humanitarian couple have opted for donations to be made to the CHIVA (Children’s HIV Association), Crisis (a UK-based homelessness charity), the Myna Mahila Foundation (a charity that supports women in Mumbai’s urban slums), Scotty’s Little Soldiers (which helps bereaved Armed Forces children), StreetGames (a foundation using sport to change lives), Surfers against Sewage and The Wilderness Foundation UK (which promotes the enjoyment of wild nature). Again, this is why we love them!
Prince Harry & Ms. Meghan Markle are incredibly grateful for the goodwill they have received since their engagement, & have asked that anyone who might wish to mark the occasion of their wedding considers giving to charity, instead of sending a gift. https://t.co/lzfrRmoeUv pic.twitter.com/nxrTZtIKBY

5. According to the Kensington royal Instagram account, the marriage of Prince Harry and Markle will take place in St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle at 12 noon. The Queen has granted permission for the ceremony to be held in the place of worship, which seats approximately 800, and core aspects of the wedding, including the service, music, flowers, decorations and reception, will be paid for by the royal family.
6. The cake – a lemon elderflower bake that will incorporate the bright flavours of spring – will be made by Violet Bakery‘s Claire Ptak.
7. Markle will be walked down the aisle by her father-in-law, the prince of Wales as her father’s ill health will prevent him from attending the wedding.
